Mermaids and Monsters: the jacket

I've had loads of fun today playing with words and images and making a prototype cover for my book. A budding friend, artist and writer Felicity Notley let me use a photo she took of a magical pond in Croatia. The illustration is by Harry Clarke (1889 - 1931) who illustrated the Little Mermaid for an edition of Hans Christian Andersen fairytales.
I liked the result so much that I printed off a few copies and wrapped them around existing books. Feels like I just got published. A bit cart and horse, but still lovely. Hey ho. Back to writing!

  1. Thank you, Kelly - for being; for your courage; and for the generosity of spirit that made this blog possible. I discovered you quite by chance while preparing to tweet my blog post to @am writing, and what a find you are. I lost a premmie at birth many years ago, and the loss always remains with you. My experience of breast cancer is limited to my distant days as a nurse and friends and relatives who have suffered with it. If I can offer any encouragement at all, it would be to say always remember that you are bigger than the disease.

I will follow your blog with interest.

  2. I woke up to this comment on a beautiful Sunday morning - Cornwall has been under a deluge of rain for weeks on end, and today the sun has appeared. I went into my garden and picked some young nettle buds and some lemon balm, infused them in my favourite cup, sat down at the computer and then saw this lovely message. What pleasure! x
